Company History

IM EX Trading Company was founded in mid 1981 and incorporated under the laws of Washington state later that same year.  An international trading company implies, among other things, taking title to everything traded and assumption of the receivable risk.  It also intimates close ties between trading partners.

It was envisioned from the onset that the new company would export fresh apples and pears from Washington state to all of Latin America.  The name IM EX was selected as an acronym for import export.  Due to the founder's 11 year living and work history in the Republic of Mexico, it was contemplated that fresh fruit trading to Latin American countries would be a viable international business and perhaps different products could be traded.

History has been kind.  IM EX has enjoyed success and has basically stayed within the geography and product lines originally envisioned.  Export trade is with 16 Latin American countries.  Over 95% of import and export trade is with horticultural products.  Export products are sourced from several western and eastern states and also two Canadian provinces.  Export activity is to Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean.  Imports are principally from Chile and Australia with occasional products from Argentina and New Zealand.  The imports from these southern hemisphere countries enjoy the reverse of our North American fresh fruit seasons.

In 1981 IM EX exports were exclusively fresh apples.  Growth in other products have been in other hard and soft fresh fruits, dried fruits, citrus, nuts, processed food items, dry pulses and Christmas trees.  Today, IM EX brings together and employee team which when combined totals well over 100 years of living and/or traveling experience in Latin America.

The IM EX Trading Company Charter
